Justices Liman, Abang redeployed over PDP cases

A judge of the High Court, Okon Abang, who is reputed for delivering controversial judgments has been returned to Abuja High Court.

Abang was posted to Asaba division about two years ago at the height of some judgements which raised a lot of controversies within the polity.

Abang’s re–posting, alongside other judges, was contained in a circular by the Chief Judge, Justice Abdu-Kafarati on Wednesday.

The circular indicated that Justice Abang whose redeployment takes effect from February 11, would be replaced by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba in the Asaba division of the court.

Recall that Justice Abang’s tenure witnessed speedy hearing of high-profile cases, that raised a lot of eyebrows among Nigerians.

Some of such cases included that of a former National Publicity Secretary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Olisa Metuh, the case that involved the battle of who should be the authentic chairman of the PDP, between Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi.

Abang was also involved in the battle of who is the real governor of Abia State between incumbent Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and Uchechukwu Ogah.

Abang ruled that Ogar should replace Ikpeazu, a ruling that was quashed by the Supreme Court.

Other Judges affected by the reshuffling include Justice Babs Kuewumi, who is redeployed from Lagos to Ado-Ekiti; Justice Babatunde Quadri, from Abuja to Maiduguri; Justice Taiwo Taiwo, from Ado-Ekiti to Abuja; and Justice J. K Dagat from Maiduguri to Lagos.
