BAYELSA: Police vow to arrest killers of Sergeant

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has instructed that the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad be immediately disbanded.

The immediate past IGP, Ibrahim Idris, established the IGP Special Investigation Panel and IGP Special Tactical Squad. He also centralised the operations of SARS into Federal SARS.

But on Monday, during his inaugural conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja, the Acting IGP ordered the disbandment of FSARS and the two others.

Following the order, FSARS will now be under the direct supervision of the Commissioners of Police in the 36 states.

Force headquarters unit, according to Adamu, would now be under the DIG, Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

He said at the conference that all-inclusive reform of SARS in terms of ethics, mode of operation, nomenclature and orientation, function delineation command and control and accountability mechanism of it will be undertaken.

The Acting IG at the meeting further disclosed the commissioning of a Special Election Investigation Team saddled with exclusive task of investigating and prosecuting electoral offenders.
