Juventus on brink of clinching sixth Serie A titles in a row

Italian giants Juventus can secure an unprecedented sixth straight Serie A title this weekend if they defeat Torino at home and second-placed AS Roma fail to win at AC Milan on Sunday – as a draw will also mean victory for Juve.

After moving closer to the Champions League final by beating Monaco at the Stade Louis II last Wednesday, the team could be heading for a treble this season, as they are also in the Italian Cup final, where they will face Lazio Roma.

“We have a huge week coming up,” Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini said.

“But we head into it with bundles of energy and enthusiasm.”

Juventus, who top the Serie A, are currently on a league record run of 33 straight victories at home, but a draw would also be enough to lift the title if Roma lose at Milan.

Since Serie A was founded in 1929, no club has won six straight titles, though Torino, Inter Milan and Juventus have all won five in a row. Hence, Juve will be setting a record this weekend – if results go their way – or next when they play at Roma.

“When your goals appear close, that’s the moment to pedal even harder,” Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri wrote on Twitter.
