KADUNA: Bandits kill 14 miners, 30 others injured in deadly attack

Tragedy struck in the Birnin Gwari axis of Kaduna state when a deadly attack by bandits left no less than 14 miners dead and 30 others injured.

A source who didn’t want to be named revealed that the bandits attacked between 12:00 and 1:00pm on Saturday in their hundreds on motor bikes attacking the artisan miners, unprovoked.

“The bandits in hundreds on bikes stormed the mining site at Janruwa, opened fire on anybody at sight.

“Over 40 persons were attacked. No fewer than 14 are feared dead. It was a gory scene. The bandits after shooting and killing, burnt the dead beyond recognition.

“All these coming after last month killing of 11 soldiers deployed to keep peace at Birnin-Gwari. We thought after the visit of the Federal Government delegation led by the honourable Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazzau, the situation would be calm,” he said.

The incident has been confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command which is yet to issue an official statement on the attack.

Reports say the latest attack on Birnin Gwari has increased the number of those dead in the last one month to more than 50, including twelve soldiers and two policemen.
