Kane scores hat-trick as Tottenham thump West Brom 4-0

Spur’s star winger Harry Kane struck a hat-trick on Saturday in Tottenham’s display of total dominance against West Bromwich Albion in a 4-0 win at White Hart Lane.

The England striker opened the scoring in the 12th minute by smartly lifting Christian Eriksen’s neat through ball, before Gareth McAuley made the scoreline 2-0 in the 26th minute.

Kane – who became a father this week – continued as a threat to the visitors as he turned in Kyle Walker’s low cross in the 77th minute, before completing his treble with a low finish across Ben Foster few minutes before the end of regulation time.

“The week has been a whirlwind having a little daughter – to finish it off like this is the best way possible,” said Kane after the game, after calling Tottenham’s collective display “outstanding.”

This is Tottenham’s sixth Premier League win in a row, and they achieved it somewhat with ease as they set about dismantling West Brom, amassing 10 shots and 78% possession by half-time.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino compared his side’s display against West Brom to their efforts last week when they ended Chelsea’s winning streak by a 2-0 victory, and terms it the ‘challenge for big things.’

“It was a great performance. We are showing a good maturity. The team learned a lot from last season and we [have] very good momentum. If you want to fight and challenge for big things we need to follow performances like Chelsea with this one,” he said.

The win on Saturday means Tottenham have climbed to second on the Premier League table, four points behind leaders Chelsea and one point above Liverpool, until the Blues play their outstanding game against Leicester City later on Saturday and the Reds against Manchester United on Sunday.
