All Progressives Congress (APC)’s legal team in Kano has assured of its readiness to defend the victory of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje before the election tribunal.

This is coming as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, on Tuesday, secured the Election Petition Tribunal’s backing to inspect the materials used during the gubernatorial election in the State.

Justice Halima Shamaki had in her ruling, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to surrender photo copies, scan and other certified materials used during the conduct of Kano elections.

However, a member of the team Barrister Abbas Haladu told journalists on Wednesday that although the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate had no substance to pose any threat to the victory of Ganduje, the APC’s legal team had confidence in defeating Yusuf at the tribunal.

Another member of the legal team, Barrister Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa expressed reservation over PDP’s request to access INEC election materials few days before the expiration of 21 days within which they have to file their petition.

Barrister Bassarawa said it would be difficult for INEC to meet up with PDP’s demands before the expiration of 21 days.

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Kano state, is challenging the victory of the incumbent governor of the state in the 23rd March supplementary election.
