Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has survived reelection scare by winning the rerun election held in the state by 45,876 votes, thereby upturning his vote deficit prior to Saturday’s election. 

Declaring the result on Sunday, the state INEC Returning Officer, Professor B. B Shehu, said Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 45,876 votes while Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 10,239 votes.

 

28 local governments were affected by the rerun poll with a total registered voters of 131,073.

Out of the figures, only 57,777 voters were accredited.

While the total valid votes during the rerun poll stood at 56,407, rejected votes were 1,100, and votes cast were 57,507.

Before the elections were declared inconclusive after the March 9 governorship election, PDP was leading with 1,014,474 votes to APC’s 987,819 votes.

After Saturday’s rerun results, APC’s votes haul stood at 1,033,695 against 1,024,713 votes secured by PDP, meaning Ganduje won with a margin of 8,982 votes.
