Kano Assembly Speaker, other principal officers impeached

A group of 24 lawmakers of the Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday impeached the speaker, Yussuf Abdullahi Ataa.

Others allegedly impeached alongside the speaker include, the Majority leader, Deputy majority leader, Minority leader, House leader and the Chief whip.

While details are still sketchy, the move is coming even after the police had on Monday sealed off the Assembly complex, ostensibly to forestall what it said is the breakdown of law and order.

Heavily armed security men had been deployed to the assembly complex about 2am in order to stop lawmakers from gaining access into the complex.
