Kano confirms death of five more patients to Coronavirus

Kano State has confirmed the death of five more patients to the dreaded Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in the state.

The state Ministry of Health made the confirmation in a tweet on its Twitter handle, @KNSMOH, in the early hours of Thursday morning. It also said that three patients recovered from the virus infection and were discharged from isolation centre.

Earlier on Wednesday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had announced that five patients died in Nigeria owing to the pandemic but did not mention the state the deaths occurred.

However, in its tweet, Kano Ministry of Health said:

“#COVID19KN Update as at 12:02am 7th May 2020. 30 new cases of #COVID19Kano cases confirmed. Total confirmed cases in @KanostateNg are now 427. 3 additional #COVID19Kano patients were successfully discharged. 5 #COVID19Kano deaths were recorded.”

After Lagos State with over 1200 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Kano ranks second as the state with highest record of infection with 427.

The Association of Nurses and Midwives in the state said that 18 of its members had contracted the disease.

Also, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) earlier had also claimed, that 34 doctors working in different hospitals in the state had contracted the dreaded virus.
