The Kano State 2024 School Enrollment Drive Campaign committee, on Thursday, met with Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to discuss the launch of an enrollment drive campaign in Kano.

The campaign aims to increase the number of children in schools and reduce the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the state.

Doguwa also mentioned that Kano had 900,000 out-of-school children, but the number had reduced due to the present administration’s efforts in reforming the education sector.

The Chief of UNICEF field office in Kano, Mr. Mohammed Farah, emphasized the need for sustainable community engagement and locally led solutions to reduce the number of out-of-school children. He mentioned that Nigeria has 10.5 million out-of-school children, with 10% of them in Kano State, the highest rate in the world.

Emir Sanusi assured the committee of his support and lauded the state government’s decision to declare a state of emergency on education. He suggested the use of the mother language in teaching and advocated for modern ways of teaching to meet the demands of technological transformation.

The campaign will involve distributing furniture, teaching materials, school uniforms, and other essential items to primary and post-primary schools.

The committee called on parents and stakeholders to support the drive to reduce out-of-school children in Kano State.
