Though there had been insinuations that the spike in deaths in the state in recent times, numbering hundreds, were as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government disputed the claims, saying they were as a result of other ailments, especially acute malaria and diabetes amongst others.
The state also at the moment has the second highest number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases, coming only behind Lagos, the epicenter of the pandemic in the country with 576 cases as shown by the latest data from the Nigeria Centre Disease for Control (NCDC).
