Kashamu dares NDLEA, says people must die before his extradition to US

A serving senator from Ogun State East senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, has threatened that any effort to extradite him to the United State (US) over alleged drug offences will lead to deaths.

He has, therefore, asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration not to harken to the demand by the US government for his extradition.

This is even as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was reported saying that it will see to the arrest of Senator Kashamu because the latest ruling by a US court stating that the senator can be arrested anywhere with the help of local security has now “emboldened and strengthened” the agency to do the needful.

The NDLEA Head, Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju was quoted saying to a journalist that the agency will also ensure that orders stopping the arrest of the senator were vacated in a bid to pave the way for his extradition.

But Kashamu who argued he had no case to answer on the matter following previous rulings in United Kingdom courts over the issue, added that before he would be extradited by anybody to the US “about three, four or five people will die.”

According to the embattled senator, the issue for which the US court wants him extradited was laid to rest by two British courts 14 years ago, and three Nigerian courts in 2015, adding that in all of those rulings none was appealed.

He, therefore, said he has firm understanding that the Buhari administration will not disregard the rule of law and allow him to be taken away.

“There is no extradition that can be brought against me again. The only thing they can do is to watch and catch me on the road; take me to the airport or Cotonou or throw me inside a vessel and take me through the Atlantic Ocean. But I am not going to let that happen.

“I don’t go to the beach, and now, I will go and hire OPC, may be like 40. I will load them (in my vehicle), because the day we meet, one has to kill one. That is for sure! One has to kill one because I am not ready to go anywhere. Before that happens, maybe about three, four or five people will die.

“But I do not believe that this government can entertain this kind of rubbish. I do believe that this government has integrity and they (officials) are credible; they believe in the rule of law, because if they want to do it, they could have done it,” Kashamu said.

He alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been the one engineering his travails using somebody he identified simply as Sandra, a former ambassador of the United States.
