EXTRADITION: Court rules in favour of Kashamu

A serving senator who represents Ogun East senatorial district, Buruji Kashamu, is now the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the state.

Kashamu’s emergence as PDP governorship candidate followed the withdrawal of Mr. Adeleke Shittu from the race.

Shittu had won the governorship primary election conducted by the Bayo Dayo faction of the party in the state and his name was published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the PDP governorship candidate for Ogun.

But Shittu was said to have voluntarily withdrawn from the race for Kashamu at the meeting of the party stakeholders, leaders and elders.

The development was confirmed by Kashamu’s media aide, Mr. Austin Oniyokor, who claimed that leaders of the party prevailed on Kashamu to replace Shittu to make brighter the party’s chances of winning the governorship poll.

“The party’s stakeholders, leaders and elders met and decided that it would be better for Senator Buruji Kashamu to run if the PDP wants to win.

“Mr. Adeleke Shittu, who was at the meeting, also saw reason with them.

“I can confirm to you that Mr Shittu last week Friday signed the withdrawal letter and at the Senate he has informed INEC of his withdrawal from the race,” Oniyokor said.

The party however, allowed Reuben Abati, a former spokesman to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, to remain as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
