KATSINA: Court sentences mother for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twins for N35k

Salima Lawal, a resident of Marabar kankara town in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, will now spend the next 10 months in prison after she was sentenced for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twins.

The mother of the twins was arraigned by the police for alleged violation of Section 278 of the Penal Code.

Salima who was arrested after she was caught attempting to sell her kids for the sum of N350,000 in December last year, was however given an option of N10,000 fine Katsina State Senior Magistrates’ Court.

The presiding magistrate, Nuradeen El-Laden, while delivering his judgment, said Salima was given a light sentence of 10 months behind bars because of her health condition and that of the twins.

El-Laden also added that Salima who had been in police custody for a number of days might have been living in abject poverty prompting her to make an attempt to sell her twins.
