Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, Tuesday confirmed the death of the state’s first coronavirus case.

Masari, who disclosed this to journalists in Katsina, said the deceased, Dr. Aminu Yakubu, a Daura- based private medical practitioner recently returned from Lagos to the state and died three days later.

According to the governor, the deceased blood sample was taken to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) office in Abuja for examination and he was confirmed positive for coronavirus.

He said the late Dr. Yakubu who is a native of Kogi State, had been battling with Hypertitis and threats of hypertension.

He said the government has commenced the tracing of all persons the deceased had contact with from Lagos to Katsina.

Masari said: ”His samples were taken to NCDC for diagnosis where it was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.”

“Our medical response team is in Daura right now for contact tracing of all that came into contact with him. We hope by this night and tomorrow morning to take complete samples of those he had contact with to the NCDC.”
