KENYA; 3rd opposition member who attended Odinga's mock inauguration arrested

Security operatives in Kenya have arrested a third opposition legislator identified as George Aladwa who attended the mock “swearing-in” of opposition leader Raila Odinga which was described by the government as a “well-choreographed attempt to subvert or overthrow” it.

“George Aladwa was arrested at his house and is currently being held at the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation,” his lawyer Nelson Havi told Reuters.

“He was interrogated in connection with the oath taken by Kenyan main opposition leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president,” he said. A police spokesman said he was not aware of his detention.

His arrest comes after the detention of opposition member Miguna Miguna who stood beside Odinga at Tuesday’s symbolic “swearing in” and the arrest of TJ Kajwang, a politician who also attended the mock swearing-in.

The arrest of Aladwa also comes days after the suspension of three independent TV stations in Kenya namely; Citizen, NTV and KTN TV for attempting to broadcast the mock inauguration of Odinga was suspended by a High Court.

According to NTV, a 14-day suspension of the government’s shutdown has been ordered by the High Court, while a legal challenge can be heard.
