Kenyan court orders detention of 21-yr-old for aiding terrorists

The police in Kenya have been given the go-ahead by a court in Mandera on Thursday morning to detain 21-year-old Abdirahman Ali for aiding and abetting terrorists.

Ali who was taken away from court by Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) will be detained for the next 10 days for interrogation following the role he played in last week’s terror attack at Bishaaro Hotel, where 12 people were killed.

Police Constable Stephen Opondo, according to a sworn affidavit, revealed that Ali who also happens to be the caretaker of the hotel is suspected to have aided the terrorists in carrying out the attack.

In the affidavit, Constable Opondo stated that Mr Ali is suspected of engaging in organised criminal activities in Mandera Town.

“He is the caretaker of the lodge and, through credible intelligence, we believe he supported the terror attack at Bishaaro Hotel and Lodging leading to [the] murder of 12 and injury of 4,” states the affidavit.
