Keyamo petitions IGP over police harassment of lottery operators

A lawyer and human rights activist, Festus Keyamo has filed a suit against the telecoms company, MTN Nigeria, at the Federal High Court in Lagos on behalf of a client, Mr. Bennett Igbani

Igbani slammed MTN with N200 million lawsuit for barring his MTN mobile line.

The plaintiff, also a lawyer (based in the United Kingdom) said he had been using his duly registered sim card with the number 08067251116 for the past 8-years as he roamed it while abroad, but he became suspicious when he noticed that his e-mail account had been hacked into by a third party using his MTN line.

The PhD student, also revealed that a lady named Nora who claimed to be his younger sister made a call with his number asking to withdraw the sum of N5 million from his account because he (Igbani) needed to be flown overseas for urgent medical attention.

Igbani also noted that his six bank accounts were all linked to his MTN line and denied having any sister who goes by the name of Nora.

He said he petitioned the police after he noticed the fraud attempt on his account and contacted MTN which informed him that his line has been reclaimed by another user.

Igbani said MTN kept him in the dark for over five months as he lost business opportunities, suffered psychological stress, financial loss, and infringement on his privacy.

In the suit filed through his lawyer, Mr. Keyamo, Igbani said he is praying for an order mandating MTN to return his number to him and restrain the telecoms company from further tampering with his line.

According to reports, Igbani and MTN will have their day in court as the case will be heard on September 23, 2016.
