KOGI: APC clears Irukera for guber primary

The Director General of the Federal Competition and Consumers Protection Council, Babatunde Irukera, has been cleared by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the party’s governorship primary holding today in Kogi State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Issa-onilu, Irukera successfully met the conditions provided by the Party’s guidelines for the nomination as candidates within the time granted to clarify his claims.

It would be recalled that the screening committee headed by Sen. Hope Uzodinma, had on Aug. 26, released its report, disqualifying Irukera for not meeting requirements.

According to the committee, Irukera was not a financial member and had not been in the party for up to a year, amongst other reasons giving for his disqualification.

Irukera is a close associate of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and a former head of the VP’s law firm, Simmons and Coopers.

On Wednesday, some aggrieved members of APC on the auspice of Kogi Mandate Group, had expressed concern over the disqualification of Irukera during a protest at the party’s national Secretariat, Abuja.

The National Coordinator, Kogi Mandate Group, Mr Amos Alfa, said that the group was at the APC National Secretariat to protest against disqualification of Irukera.

According to him, the NWC of the party should do justice to ensure that Irukera feature in the primary.

“Justice should be done and ensure that this party doesn’t lose Kogi to a wrong hand,” Alfa said.
