KADUNA: Lone gunman kills 4, injures 8 others during xmas carol

The long arm of the law has caught up with two notorious kidnappers identified as 27-year-old Emmanuel Jibril and Thyasa Momoh, 20, both of whom previously abducted 40-year-old Ocheja Okedi on three occasions in Ochikala in Aloma, Ofo Local Government Area, LGA, Kogi State.

According to the Commissioner of Police Mr. Ali A. Janga of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the kidnappers demanded N7 million ransom from their victim.

The CP revealed that the suspects, Jibril and Momoh who are both from Ajaokuta in Omala LGA, stormed Okedi’s home in January this year, abducted him and eventually his family was able to pay the sum of N500,000 to secure his release.

Barely one month after, in February, the same gang stormed his house again and kidnapped him. They took the sum of N6.5 million from the family before releasing him.

The gang members who were apparently moved by greed and the ease at which they got away with their first two operations decided to kidnap the victim for a third time which they did on August 19, 2017, when they invaded his home again and took him deep into the forest demanding the sum of N7 million as ransom for his release.

However, family members of the victim decided that enough was enough as they reported the matter to the police which launched a manhunt for the kidnappers by activating the Special Armed Robbery Squad.

Moments after storming the forest in an attempt to rescue the victim, there was an exchange of gunfire between police operatives and the kidnappers but the firepower of the police overwhelmed the gang as the victim was rescued from the hideout and the two suspects arrested.

The CP said police recovered two locally made pistols, five live cartridges, military boots and a black mask. He also revealed that efforts are underway to nab another member of the gang identified as Bello, who is still at large, while he said the arrested suspects will soon be charged to court.
