Kogi lawmakers move to impeach deputy governor

Published

The crisis rocking the Kogi State House of Assembly may soon claim its first victim, as lawmakers loyal to the “impeached” Speaker, Momoh Jimoh, Friday, announced its decision to serve the state’s deputy governor, Simon Achuba, an impeachment notice.

Speaker Momoh Jimoh disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja.

According to Honorable Jimoh, the notice of impeachment would be served on the Deputy Governor for allegedly instigating crisis among members of the House of Assembly.

The Speaker also used the news conference to announce the suspension of the five members who “impeached” him, adding that their action was a violation of the rules of the House as the five members failed to form a quorum before announcing his impeachment.

In a related development, 15 members of the House, also on Friday, dissociated themselves from the purported impeachment of Jimoh, claiming that their signatures were forged. They were at the residence of the embattled speaker.
