KOGI: LG workers reject part payment of salaries

Local Government workers in Kogi State, on Sunday, rejected the 25 and 30 percent salaries paid to them by the state government.

The Joint Action Union of Local Government Workers, which rejected the payment on behalf of LG workers in the state, consists of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Non-Academic Staff Union.

The JAU made their position known after its state administrative council meeting held in Lakoja, the state capital on Sunday.

While expressing displeasure over the way local government workers were being treated by the government, the union said the state government had failed to meet the demands of the workers despite receiving April and May allocations from the Federal Government.

The union also noted that local government pensioners received between 35 per cent and 50 per cent of their stipends, adding, “Workers in the local government were expecting something better compared to what they had been collecting in the past.”

The union thereafter called on the state government to do the needful as workers at the grass roots had been facing untold hardship for several months.
