Kogi reinstates sacked LG bosses

In from Timothy Enietan-Matthews . . .

The governor of Kogi State, Capt. Idris Ichala Wada has directed sacked government chairman and counselors to resume office immediately.

The governor gave the directive Tuesday in Lokoja in obedience of a Court of Appeal judgment that upturned a Kogi State High Court judgment that sacked the council chiefs.

It will be recalled that the reinstatement of the Council chiefs had been used by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) late Prince Abubakar Audu, as a bargaining point to woo the aggrieved local government chairmen to support his candidature.

13 of the chairmen defected to the APC, as a result of his promise, when Wada failed to reinstate them.
The state High Court, sitting in Kotonkarfi, had declared, in a suit brought before it by the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, the constitution of SIEC and all its actions, “ultra vires”, leading to the sack of the Council Chairmen and Councilors.

It is however not yet clear what will be the lot of those who defected to the APC.
