KOREA PENINSULA: US flies in 2 B-1B bombers in show of force against N'Korea

The United States in a show of force against defiant North Korea has flown in two B-1B bombers to the Korean peninsula.

According to U.S. Air Force in a statement on Sunday, the B-1B flight, conducted on Saturday, was in direct response to the missile test and the previous July 3 launch of the “Hwansong-14” rocket by North Korea.

“North Korea remains the most urgent threat to regional stability,” Pacific Air Force commander, General Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, said in the statement.

“If called upon, we are ready to respond with rapid, lethal, and overwhelming force at a time and place of our choosing”.

Only on Friday, North Korea, led by defiant leader, Kim Jong Un, fired another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) which according to reports proved its ability to strike all of America’s mainland.

The missile launch by the North which was meant to unsettle it neighbours and the United Nations, drew sharp warning from U.S. President Donald Trump and a rebuke from China.

According to KCNA news agency, the midnight launch was monitored by Kim who said it was a “stern warning” for the United States that it would not be safe from destruction if it tries to attack Pyongyang.
