After Kuwait, US Sec heads to Saudi to help resolve Gulf of Arab crisis

Two days after meeting with senior officials of Kuwait, in a new level of efforts to help end the Gulf dispute, US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson is expected in Saudi Arabia to meet with King Salman on Wednesday.

Reports say after his meeting with King Salman, Tillerson will then hold talks with other counterparts from three other Arab states that have imposed a blockade on Qatar.

He is expected to mediate with foreign ministers of the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt in an effort to help solve the Gulf dispute.

“I think Qatar has been quite clear in its positions, and I think those have been very reasonable,” Tillerson said on Tuesday.

Tillerson’s visit is coming about four days after Britain’s foreign minister, Boris Johnson, arrived in Saudi Arabia and met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Recall that on June 5, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar imposing a land, air and sea blockade on the country after accusing Doha of funding terrorism.
