The cold war between the governor of Kano State, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje and his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, took a new turn on Thursday, as the state House of Assembly impeached it’s Chief Whip, Zubairu Mahmud over his loyalty to the former Governor of the state, Kwankwaso.
It would be recalled that Kwankwaso had been in the line of fire since he condolence visit to the governor, which was viewed to be political and violent in nature.
The state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, also threatened to discipline the former governor for anti-party activities.
At the sitting on Thursday, 34 members of the assembly, out of 39, unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ganduje as the leader of the APC in Kano.
The former Chief Whip was replaced with Labaran Madari from Warawa constituency.
Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed Gama, representing Nassarawa constituency presented a motion for the impeachment of the Chief Whip which was seconded by majority of the lawmakers.
They also reaffirmed their support for the administration of President Muhammad Buhari and the Kano state governor.
The 34 state lawmakers had paid a solidarity visit to the governor on Tuesday, where they appealed to him to ditch the red cap that symbolised the reign of Kwankwaso’s leadershio of the state.
However, seven members of the Assembly believed to be loyal to Senator Kwankwaso were absent from the sitting on Thursday.
