Madrid, after the win, were two points above Barcelona at the top of the league, before Barca played later in the night beating Celta Vigo 5-0 to retain top spot.

Star player Lionel Messi scored two goals as Barcelona saw off the visitors, plus one goal each from Neymar, Ivan Rakitic and Wamuel Umtiti at the Nou Camp.

Messi made it 1-0 when he ran 45 yards and slotted in, before Neymar scored with a superb finish. Barca increased their lead with strikes from Ivan Rakitic and Samuel Umtiti before another solo effort from Messi to make it five for the home team.

The Luis Enrique side are now one point above Madrid, as they prepare to host PSG in the return leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday.
