Nigeria In One Minute

Ladies, can you drop the bra for a day to help fight cancer?

Nigerian women today join their counterparts around the world to mark the No Bra Day. October 13 is a day to leave your bra at home and the campaign is meant to promote breast cancer awareness and to help raise money for research.

Many women who have survived breast cancer are unable to go without a bra as they need it to hold their prosthesis after surgery.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and No Bra Day serves as a reminder for all women around the world to be screened for breast cancer.

Though it is a commonly held belief that a bra is necessary and helps keep breasts healthy and safe, recent studies indicate that those who wear bras for 12 hours each day are 20 times more likely to be exposed to the risks of breast cancer compared to those who wear them less or not at all.

Studies show that wearing a bra keeps lymphs in the breast from regular circulation and thus raises cancer risks in the long run.

The theme for 2015 World Cancer Day is “Not Beyond Us.”
