Lagos court grants Saraki's aide N250m bail

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted an aide of Senate President Bukola Saraki, Mr Gbenga Makanjuola bail in the sum of N250 million.

Makanjuola, who is the deputy chief of Staff to Saraki, is standing trial alongside two others, Kolawole Shitu and Obiorah Amobi, over an alleged N3.5 billion fraud, was granted bail on Tuesday by Justice Bans Kuewumi.

Justice Kuewumi, who also granted Shitu and Amobi bail in same amount, however ordered that the suspects provide two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, who must be resident in Lagos and own landed properties, are also expected to deposit their Certificate of Occupancy with the court’s registrar pending the determination of the case.

The sureties, the judge further ruled, must also show evidence of tax payment in the last three years as well as submit a letter of identification from their banks.

It would be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had on October 3 arraigned Makanjuola, Shittu and Amobi alongside a firm Melrose General Services Limited on 11 counts bordering on conspiracy and money laundering.
