If you’re driving through Lagos Island in the coming weeks, buckle up for some detours as the Lagos State Government has rolled out a diversion plan for roadworks set to begin on January 17.

These repairs, including duct calibration, land route fixes, and technical checks, are aimed at improving key routes in the bustling area.

The state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, outlining the affected routes, timelines, and alternative arrangements for motorists.

While the repairs may cause temporary disruptions, the government assures Lagosians that every effort has been made to minimize inconvenience.

The planned repairs will cover several critical points on Lagos Island, with each section scheduled for specific dates to ensure efficiency.

Below is a breakdown of the affected areas and the diversion plans:

– Bonny Camp Underbridge to Eko Atlantic Sales Office (Jan. 17 – Jan. 31):
Repairs will focus on the road median, with no expected impact on traffic flow.

– Eko Hotel Roundabout (Jan. 19):
Motorists moving from Eko Hotel towards Adetokunbo Ademola Avenue will be diverted into two lanes around the roundabout to accommodate work crews safely.

– Officer’s Mess Inward Independence Bridge (Jan. 19):
Traffic heading to Independence Bridge from Officer’s Mess will shift to the two farthest lanes from the kerb, ensuring smooth operations during repairs.

– Ajose Adeogun to Ligali Ayorinde (Jan. 20 – Jan. 24):
A manhole repair near the Ligali Ayorinde Junction will see vehicles diverted into two lanes as they approach Oniru Beach.

– Ligali Ayorinde to the End of Landmark (Jan. 25 – Jan. 31):
Repairs will occur on the road setback, with no disruptions expected to traffic flow.

To ensure things don’t descend into gridlock, traffic management officers will be stationed along all affected routes to guide motorists and keep vehicular movement flowing as smoothly as possible.

Mr. Osiyemi urged motorists to remain patient, adding, “These repairs are essential to ensure safer and more efficient road usage for everyone. We’ve taken steps to minimize the impact, and we appreciate your cooperation.”
