Lagos govt raises BRT fare by 18%
The Lagos State government has increased the fare for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) by 18 percent.
The Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) disclosed this in a notice posted on its X handle on Thursday.
It added that the new fare regime would take effect from next week.
The agency called for understanding and cooperation of passengers on the increment.
The notice read: “Please be informed that there will be an 18 percent increase in the bus fare on all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) schemes.

“The fare increase is because of the increase in the cost of operations and the need to ensure that buses keep running and guarantee your movement around Lagos.”
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in July 2023 slashed the transport fares for the state-owned transport platforms by 25% to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.
The fares were later slashed further to 50%
The state government in November 2023 cancelled the 50% transport fare discount on all BRT routes and reverted to the old prices.
