Lagos, Kano lead in highest number of voters

Statistics released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shown that Lagos and Kano maintain their lead as states with the highest number of registered voters.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made this known while presenting the list of 84,004,084 registered voters to political parties at the quarterly meeting of the commission with political parties, held in Abuja on Monday.

Of the total figure, Lagos and Kano States have 6.6 million and 5.5 million voters respectively.
Lagos has an increase of 800,000 from its 5.8 million voters in 2015 while Kano has an increase of 500,000 from its 2015 figure.

Further analysis reveals that the North-West has the highest number of voters with a figure that stands at 20,158,100 while the South-East has the lowest registered voters with 10,052,236.

Others are  South-South (12,841,279); South-West (16,292,212); North-East (11,289,293); and North-Central (13, 366,070).

39,598,645, female voters constitute 47.14 per cent while male voters constitute 52.85 per cent, which is 44,405,439 voters.

Youths (18-35) constitute 51.11 per cent, which is 42,938,458 voters; while the middle aged (36-50) constitute 29.97 per cent, which is 25,176,144.

The elderly (51-70) constitute 15.22 per cent, which amounted to 3,100,971 voters; while the old (70+) constitute 3.69 per cent, which is 3,100,971 voters.
