Lagos monorail: Govt, contractors differ on cost of project

Published

Contractors handling the Lagos State Monorail project and the state have differed on the actual cost of the project.

The state government, at the inception of the project, said it would gulp a whopping $1.2 billion, but according to the 2010 Annual Report of the Chinese Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), the parent company of Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), contractors handling the job, the cost of the 27-kilometre Lagos blue rail project was put at $182million.

This has left a huge deficit of $1.018bn or 85 per cent unaccounted for. This was against the initial claim of the project which the state government put at $1.2billion.

Furthermore, the reports said the blue rail project being sponsored by the Lagos State Government (LASG), is being developed by Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on behalf of Lagos State Government.
