LAGOS: Senior secondary school student dies after taking beverage mixed with sniper

A senior secondary one student, Favour Ekemedili of the Cedar College, Baruwa, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, has died after allegedly consuming beverage laced with an insecticide called sniper.

According sources on Sunday, the deceased was alleged to have taken the poisonous substance in class.

The beverage, after being examined, was discovered to be laced with Sniper.

The principal of the school, Samuel Adeliyi, confirmed the incident.

According to sources, Favour was spotted drinking the beverage by her classmates before pouring out the remaining content minutes before she started complaining of severe pain.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday, said Favour died while receiving treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

He added that the remaining content of the beverage bottle had been taken to the laboratory for testing.
