Lagos shuts 103 health facilities for unprofessionalism

The Lagos State government said it sealed no fewer than 103 health facilities across the state in 2020 for non-compliance with regulatory standards.

Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, HEFAMAA, disclosed this in a statement on its website on Sunday night.

The Agency also revealed that Health Facility Inspection Tool, Health Fit, has been deployed to enhance effective and efficient inspection and monitoring of health facilities in the state.

The statement revealed that the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Abiola Idowu who spoke on Friday during a virtual meeting with staff of the Agency, also said some of the sealed health facilities have been reopened following compliance with regulatory standards.

“The facilities were shut down for infractions ranging from quackery, operating beyond schedule, lack of qualified medical personnel to non-registration of facilities and lack of basic equipment. Although, many of the facilities were reopened because they have corrected the infractions but a few others will remain sealed until they do the right thing”, she stated.

Dr Idowu emphasized that the agency is committed to sustaining the fight against unprofessional conduct in the system, while adding that unethical conducts would no longer be tolerated.

She also advised new facilities to register with the agency before commencing operation, adding that existing registered operators should ensure prompt renewal of their certificates to avoid sanctions.
