Lakurawa terrorists kill four people, including three telecom workers, in Kebbi
Three staff members of Airtel Communication Nigeria Limited have been reportedly killed by terrorists belonging to the Lakurawa sect, while installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in the Gumki village in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
According to a statement on Saturday by the state police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, the deceased alongside an unidentified person were attacked and killed by the insurgents who invaded the construction site in the village which is a border community between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
“On 10/01/2025 at about 2047hrs, suspected Lakurawa bandits invaded a construction site at Gumki village, Arewa LGA, a community between Nigeria and Niger Republic, where staff of Airtel communication Nigeria Ltd were installing a surveillance mask for the Nigeria Immigration Service,” Abubakar said
“As a result, four people lost their lives, one indigene and three staff of the Airtel company.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani alongside with the Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, swiftly mobilised to scene, evacuated the corpses to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
“The CP equally reviewed the security architecture of the area, by deploying additional tactical teams and charged them to decisively deal with suspected Lakurawa bandits operating in the area,” he stated.
The killing of the telecom workers is coming barely one week after the same terrorist group invaded the Alhaji Lawal Block Farm and nearby Fulani settlements in Natsini village, along the Argungu-Kangiwa road in Argungu Local Government Area of the state and killed two police officers during a gun battle.
During the attack which occurred on January 3, the terrorists who were said to number over 50 and riding on motorcycles, overpowered the officers stationed at the checkpoint before proceeding to the village to rustle hundreds of cattle.
