Lalong wins Plateau governorship election

The incumbent governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared the winner of the governorship election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Lalong winner after the conclusion of the supplementary election held in the state yesterday.

According to the Returning Officer in the state, Prof Richard Kimbir, Lalong polled a total of 595,582 votes to defeat 23 other candidates, including Jeremiah Oseni of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 546,813 votes.

Kimbir stated that a total of 1,159,954 valid votes were recorded while 16,188 were rejected, saying 1,176,142 was the total number of votes cast.

Governor Lalong scored 12,327 new votes, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Jeremiah Useni, earned 8,487 in the supplementary election that took place in nine local government areas of the state on Saturday, March 23.

The election in the state was declared inconclusive after the first round of ballot on March 9.
