LASSA FEVER: Anxiety as 9 deaths, 102 cases recorded in Ondo

There is palpable anxiety in Ondo State, as the governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has revealed that no less than nine deaths and 102 cases of Lassa fever have been recorded in different parts of the state recently.

The governor who also added that 36 of the 79 cases with laboratory results have been confirmed as Lassa fever, gave the scary figures during a state broadcast.

Akeredolu noted that patients are being managed at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, and also revealed that 127 hospital contacts and 308 community contacts were line-listed in all the affected local government areas while 30 have completed their follow-up.

The governor who said confirmatory tests for patients are done at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo State also added that an Emergency Preparedness and Response Team has been reactivated at both the state and local government levels to curb the spread of the disease.

“Publicity is also on-going through radio jingles, radio and television discussions in our media houses,” the governor said.
