1. Twitter builds technology to control cyber bullying on its app

Saudi paid Twitter employee to spy on accounts of dissidents, reports say

Social networking site Twitter is building what its team has described as a tool to let users reword potentially offensive replies while interacting with peers on the platform. According to Twitter, it is already testing the feature, a development which is part of a move by the social media company to rid its platform of abuse and bullying.

Twitter noted that it has activated the feature for some selected iPhone users. The technology pops a short message if Twitter’s algorithm senses that your intended reply might be potentially offensive. While further explain the model, the social networking site noted that if your response is peppered with expletives or contains the kind of language often associated with harassment, Twitter will ask you if you want to reconsider expressing it in more, perhaps, diplomatic terms.

2. Nigerian Wrapyt partners 1000 car owners to launch road advertisement

Nigerian advert service startup, Wrapyt, has entered into partnership with about 1000 private car owners and e-hailing drivers to further launch its car advertising solution that helps brands reach and engage with millions of geographically-targeted audiences within cities.

The advertising startup has built an online platform to connect brands with these drivers with an in-house GPS technology that helps it track each driver in a live campaign. According to Wrapyt, its platform will also provide advertisers with data to include total miles covered by each driver. Analysts believe that Wrapyt could be the future of out-of-home advertising if it scales and raises enough funds to penetrate the seemingly saturated market.

3. Egyptian startup Instabug scores $5m in Series A funding round

Egyptian startup Instabug has announced scoring a $5M Series A funding round to help it expand and launch new products in line with its vision. The 8-year old startup has been in business, allowing users offer feedback from within apps to report bugs and related issues.

After launch in 2012, Instabug has been at the forefront streamlining communication between quality assurance and developers. According to reviews, its service allows for in-app conversations, powerful crash reporting, and advanced analytics, among other new features. Industry reports revealed that its service is already in use by thousands of apps, serving 2.2 billion devices worldwide.

4. Estonian fintech AskRobin raises $1.7M to enter emerging markets

Estonia-founded Fintech AskRobin has raised $1.7 million in funding, an investment backed by VC funds Change Ventures, Vereeni Early Stage Fund, BENE Asia Capital, and Lemonade Stand. The startup, which operates a financial services marketplace for “underbanked” customers in Latin America, also saw the participation of a number of tech entrepreneurs from Estonia.

According to reports, some of these tech entrepreneurs included Ragnar Sass, co-founder of Pipedrive, and Taavi Tamkivi, founder of the anti-money laundering platform Salv. AskRobin’s cofounder, Rain Sepp, recounted how they launched 3 years back, as mainly a FB Messenger chatbot bringing basic financial education to people.
