Lawyer who stabbed husband to death, bought new knives in preparation

A fresh angle into the murder of Otike Odibi, who was stabbed to death by his wife Udeme Odibi for allegedly engaging in extra-marital affairs has emerged.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, the 47-year-old suspect who has confessed to the crime had procured a set of new knives which she allegedly used to kill her 50-year-old husband.

Edgal said the suspect sent her a sister a message on WhatsApp shortly before the incident and later called her mother on the telephone immediately after committing the alleged crime.

The Lagos CP said; “On the day of the incident, the suspect sent a WhatsApp message to her sister-in-law complaining about her husband and asking her to pray for them. She equally asked God to forgive her.

“The suspect, Udeme Odibi, in her statement, confessed to the commission of the alleged crime and called her mother on the telephone that she had killed her husband. The suspect had hit her husband with a frying pan on his head before stabbing him with a knife.”

According to Edgal, the suspect had her bag packed as she planned to jet out of the country immediately after committing the crime.

“The suspect had procured a set of knives which she used to execute her plan. She had packed all her certificates and made arrangements to travel to the United Kingdom that Thursday through Virgin Atlantic.

“The autopsy on the deceased is currently being carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, by a team of pathologists, while the forensic analysis result is being compiled and will be made public later,” the CP added.

Resident of Diamond Estate located at Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos State, where the couple lived were left in shock and disbelief when Udeme committed the act.

According to reports, Udeme had earlier threatened to stab her husband last Wednesday after they were both involved in a bitter argument with the suspect accusing the victim of having an affair outside wedlock.

Udeme later carried out her threat on Thursday when she severely stabbed her husband to death and cut off his private part which she reportedly placed in his hands after the act.

“An eyewitness account revealed that the couple, both of whom are lawyers, married three years ago after the deceased divorced his first wife. The deceased’s first marriage produced a daughter currently schooling in the United Kingdom. However, his second marriage is said to be without a child,” he added.
