According to Babatunde Sunmonu, the prosecuting counsel for the state, the crime committed by Udeme is contrary to sections 165(b) and 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The prosecuting counsel told the court that Udeme, 48, stabbed her husband Symphorosa, 50, to death at their residence on May 3, 2018, and thereafter mutilated his corpse by cutting of his penis which she later placed in the victims hands.

Moments after Udeme pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against her, Justice Akintoye adjourned the case till October 8, 2018, for the full commencement of trial of the suspect.
