Leah Sharibu’s mother, others sue FG for N500m

For the failure of the Federal Government to rescue or secure the release of Leah Sharibu from Boko Haram captivity after seven months, her mother, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu, has sued the Federal Government, demanding N500 million damages.

The suit filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos, was filed in concert with Daniel David Kadzai and a United States-based Lift-Up-Now Incorporation, a Non-Governmental Organisation.

It would be recalled that Leah Sharibu was abducted alongside 109 female students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. Others were released thereafter except Leah, who has been in captivity since February 19, 2018 because of her religious faith.

The plaintiffs are demanding N500million as compensation for the indignities and human deprivations suffered by Leah since her abduction in February 2018.

The defendants were joined over their failure to ensure the release of Leah and for failing in their statutory responsibilities.

The plaintiffs are asking for an order of the court to direct and mandate the defendants to secure the immediate and unconditional release of Leah from the custody of her captors.

The plaintiffs also praying the court for an order compelling the defendants to employ every means in securing her release.
