As predicted, Ekweremadu’s house raided

The Federal Government on Wednesday asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to authorise the forfeiture of 22 houses allegedly belonging to the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said to be located both in Nigeria and abroad.

According to the Federal Government, Ekweremadu had failed to declare the assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), when he declared his assets.

In an ex-parte motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/284/2018, the Federal Government specifically applied for an interim court order “temporarily attaching/forfeiting the properties listed in Schedule B hereunder, to the Federal Government of Nigeria, pending the conclusion of further inquiry/investigation by the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property and/or possible arraignment of the Respondent”.

Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Keyamo (SAN), filed the motion on behalf of the government.

Nine of the properties are said to be in Nigeria, two in London, eight in Dubai, while three are located in the United States of America (USA).
