Leicester to double Vardy’s wages to ward off Chelsea

Leicester are desperate to hold onto Jamie Vardy and The Mirror understand that they will offer to double the striker’s wages to keep Chelsea from signing him.

The Blues are very interested in signing Vardy, who is valued at £30 million, but the Foxes will try to tie him down with an £80,000-per-week contract.

Vardy’s current deal doesn’t expire until 2018 so the Foxes don’t need to sign him to a new contract immediately, but with several clubs interested, they want to put away any questions about his future.

While £30m is a ton of money, especially for a club like Leicester, they are the top team in the Premier League and need to do what they can to keep challenging for the title.

That means retaining Vardy. Maybe they can sell him in the summer, when they can exploit the demand for Vardy before he gets too old. But signing him to a new deal and competing for the remainder of the season, then re-evaluating in the summer is the right move.
