Lekki building collapse contractors up for prosecution, LASG says

A press statement issued and signed by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem reveals that the State Government is set to begin prosecution of contractors linked to the collapse of a five-storey building under construction in Lekki, Lagos, on March 8, 2016, which claimed the lives of 30 people.

The statement revealed that the nine suspects who were deemed culpable in the building collapse would soon have their day in court after the State Government concluded all legal plans for prosecution.

“Following the conclusion of investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and technical reports of relevant experts, the Office of the Attorney-General has concluded its Legal Advice and decided to prosecute the suspects for failure to obtain Planning Permit contrary to the provisions of the State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, and Involuntary Manslaughter contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 respectively”. The statement by the State Government read in part.

The Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration also reiterated its commitment via the statement to continue to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
