LIBERIA POLLS: Weah, Boakai set for November presidential run-off

The Liberian Election Commission has revealed that nearly all votes from Tuesday’s polls have been counted and according to the result from the election, former football star George Weah is leading with 39%, while his closest opponent, Vice-President Joseph Boakai is second with 29%.

Reports say fewer than 5% of polling stations have yet to declare results, with lawyer Charles Brumskine in third place with 9.8%.

As a result of the outcome, the pair (Weah & Boakai) who led the pack of 20 candidates competing to succeed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, are now both set for a run-off scheduled for November 7.

Mr Weah, 51, who has chosen Charles Taylor’s ex-wife Jewel Howard Taylor as his running mate is confident of emerging the president of Liberia which has not had a smooth transfer of power in 73 years.
