EFCC boss Magu vows to eradicate corruption in 12 months

In what may appear as taking a cue from the stance of President Muhammadu Buhari on the continued detention of a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, Monday, vowed not to release the detained National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, until he refunds the alleged over N400 million he collected from the former NSA.

According to Magu, Metuh has been unwilling to admit and refund the money, debunking claims by the PDP that the EFCC is on a witchhunt mission of leaders of the opposition PDP after its continued detention of Metuh and release of Jafaru Isa, an All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain.

Magu further disclosed that Jafaru Issa had begun the process of refunding the money in his possession while Metuh had refused to do same.

Magu stated this at a meeting with online media publishers in Lagos on Monday.

‎”From the records, Metuh got over N400 million, he has not said anything because we need the public money to be returned so that it’s going to be used for public good.

“Also Jafaru Isa, what Dasuki gave him was N170 million. He also agreed…of course he has collected that money, he was with us for 4-5 days and then he made a deposit of N100 million and entered an undertaking to bring the rest. That does not mean we will not prosecute him.

“But this other Metuh, instead of going for a refund, he has admitted he collected money…. so instead of… he still has the money because the money is too much. Instead of returning the money, he preferred to go on strike.”‎

Magu also insisted that the anti-graft agency is not being selective in the prosecution of the war against corruption, adding that only people involved in “some certain action or inaction of corruption” are being invited for questioning.
