Liverpool ends winning streak, draws Southampton

Liverpool‘s winning run in the Premier League has been halted by a resolute Southampton side at the St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon, in a game that ended goalless.

The Reds had won their last three consecutive top flight matches, scoring an incredible 12 goals in that time to go top of the table before the international break.

Liverpool’s usually frightening attacking trio of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were particularly guilty of missing good chances.

Southampton’s defence was in good form on the day, with Virgil van Dijk and Jose Fonte both making last-ditch tackles to deny the visitors a clear path through on goal.

The draw however keeps Liverpool top for the time being after Arsenal dropped points today in their match against Manchester United, but Chelsea’s match with Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon will determine who tops the league table.
