A late own goal inspired by Mohamed Salah sealed a 2-1 victory for Liverpool as the Reds beat Spurs in a thrilling encounter at Anfield.

With the win, Liverpool keep up with their chase of the Premier League title this season as they returned to top on the table.

It was a Toby Alderweireld’s 90th-minute own goal that gave Liverpool the dramatic win over their visitors.

Lucas Moura had levelled for Spurs in the 70th minute when he swept in Christian Eriksen’s pass right in the box.

Moura’s goal came after Roberto Firmino’s first-half header from Andrew Robertson’s superb cross which gave the home side the lead.

Spurs thought they had won part of spoils when keeper Hugo Lloris failed to hold Salah’s routine far-post header and the ball ricocheted into the net off Alderweireld.

“When these moments come we never give up. We are going to try and win every game,” Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said after game.

“It’s going to be tough but let’s enjoy it and keep going.”

Spurs forward Moura said: “It is very hard to lose like this. We played very well. At this level of game we cannot make some mistakes and we had chances to win the game.

“It is difficult. We played very well.

“We cannot lose more points but I am proud of my team-mates.”

Tottenham stay third on the league table with same points as fourth-placed Manchester United.
