Liverpool sink Stoke City 4-1, climb to second

In Tuesday’s English Premier League fixture against Stoke City, Liverpool came from behind to defeat the visitors 4-1 at Anfield.

The Reds fell behind in the first half but fought back to eventually record a convincing victory over Stoke, who started well but faded fast.

Stoke’s Walters opened the scoring very early in the 12th minute, before Liverpool’s Lallana put in an equalizer 23 minutes later. Firmino’s strike helped the Reds take the lead just before half-time. And an own goal from Mbula in the 60th minute together with the beautiful strike of Sturridge in the 71st wrapped it all up for Liverpool.

Liverpool are now second-placed, and has closed the gap on the leaders Chelsea to six points.

In a post-match chat, Daniel Sturridge, who scored the final goal, reportedly told reporters that he considers his goal a special gift from the defender, and admits the win was as a result of team spirit.

“It’s nice to play and score goals. I’ve not had many gifts like that for a while. I consider that one a gift from the defender to be fair. Those ones, the one on ones, are a striker’s dream. The most important thing is I keep my mindset as positive as possible. It’s a team game. Everyone’s going to be needed at some point. I stay positive and give my input when I can.”
